A rugby mate said to me a few years ago "The shape of your body at 40 will be the shape you stay for the rest of your life." I immediately thought "What a bunch of BS!" but, being a deskjockey and professional Sir Lunch-a-lot, I was concerned that, if he was right and I was wrong, I was consigned to the balance of my years being defined by bodily mediocrity. I started running.
Then I changed careers. Now I'm with one of the coolest travel companies in the world (also a product of Brisbane, Australia) and have driven a new brand Flight Centre Active. On top of the marathons I've run - Vancouver, Victoria, Chicago, Las Vegas and, most recently, Paris - I'm now gearing up to challenge New York and any other Active events which our clients might dream up.
This year I turn 40 and, whilst I'll never be that bloke from the "Perfect Pushup" ad, I don't care if my mate was right because I'm OK.
