At 36 years old, this 10-year married father of 2 is obviously keen on leaving his personal stamp on the health and fitness industry. Founding Innovative Fitness in 1996, he was instrumental in developing his business from a single customer to 7 personal training facilities across the Western Canada and the United States using his patented Lifestyle management approach. For his achievements he would be recognized as one of Canada’s 2006 Top 40 Under 40 business leaders. Not one to rest on his laurels, Matt founded Mypypeline in 2007, an online fitness content delivery platform with the vision of ‘enabling every person to experience preventative health care with accessibility, affordability and accountability as the pillars’.
In 2006, Matt co-wrote the book called Hire Me – Maximizing your earning potential by understanding what it takes to be a great employee. Since then, the book has sold over 4000 copies and led to a number of speaking engagements (particularly popular with high schools and small businesses). Matt followed the release of Hire Me by publishing 5 more books in 2007 and was approached to co-found Mountain Top Publishing Co. in late 07. Matt was also responsible for the creation of the first media only fitness reality contest with the Province and Global Television called the Fitness Fantasy and is a contributor to the Province newspaper, Opulence Magazine, Idea magazine & Impact magazine.
Matt’s passion is the intrinsic reward he gets from challenging himself to try new things, working through the associated adversities and achieving personal victories. What’s more is Matt is the first to invite others along for the experience. Matt has run, hiked, kayaked or cycled the gamut from Ironman races to multiple marathons, adventure races, and international hikes, cycles, runs and dives. His proudest accomplishment is captaining the 2007 Cannacord Team H2V Coast to Coast cycling team from Halifax to Vancouver in 8 days raising just under 1 million dollars for charity. “The ability to combine such a great physical feat and help others, is incredibly rewarding”
