Be a part of a group

Posted Mar 2, 2008

After a long, cold and fairly solitary winter of training, my wife and I had the pleasure of being part of a training group, doing a route recon for a triathlon coming up in a few weeks.

Although it was still pretty cold out on the bike, the joy of riding in a bunch of 20 plus cyclists more than made up for it.

There were athletes of all levels, and I was able to ride forward and back chatting with many of them.

It made me realize that just because we as triathletes spend so much time training and racing on our own, we can at times become very self sufficient i.e not require the company of others.

My advice to you at the start of the training season: join a masters swim group, a running or cycling club, or just take the time to make arrangements with friends and family to get out there - together.

You will be reminded of much more enjoyable the long hours of training become when performed in the company of others.
