Gain Yardage with Mobility Work
Posted Jan 29, 2008
I came across this great article by well known strength and conditioing coach Mike Boyle. He does a great job of high lighting the importance of mobility work to gain yardage in your golf swing. The rate of loss of flexibility exceeds the rate at which we lose strength with age. This means that we lose the speed component of movement due to detriorating flexibility. The end result is that we see ball striking distance diminish with age. If you want to hit the ball farther try spending more time improving your golf specific mobility - the first six weeks of the "Perfect Swing Golf Conditioing Program" on MPL's golf channel do just this!
The thing that stood out the most was his recomendation of one day of mobility work for each decade of life! That means that if you are a 50 year old golfer you need to do 5 mobility sessions per week. The reality is most of us only spend about 5 to 10 minutes per session working on improving flexibility. Time to check out Jana's yoga for golfers and the Perfect Swing Golf Conditioning Program...
