Yoga : ANYTIME and ANYWHERE
Posted Sep 21, 2008
This summer I had the oppurtunity to do a lot of camping and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to keep up my pracitice because I didn't have a hardwood floor to lye my mat on....well it was the best thing that ever happened to my practice. I found myself just throwing my mat down everywhere and anywhere...by a creek, by the campfire, in the forest, in a meadow, by a river, on the beach...it was amazing. Being out side with nature and doing my yoga helped me practice in such an organic way. I couldn't help but listen to what my body was saying because the environment was so quiet. I couldn't help but drink in the fresh air and allow prana to guide my pracice. In yoga we speak of "ahimsa", which means non-harming. In a yoga class it is very easy to get competitive and look around the room at what everyone else is doing and try to keep up. The harm in this is that we all don't move the same. We have different bodies anatomically, we have different injuries and we have different limits. But, that little voice ( called our ego ) always wants us to push ourselves and thats exactly what we end up doing! We push ourselves and push ourselves until something hurts or until we are completely exhausted and then we end up with an injury. So, next time you are on your mat, challenge yourself by not going hard. Listen to what your body wants and do what feels right intead of doing what you "think" is right.
