Week #10

Posted Oct 26, 2008

And the war of attrition is on.
On the down side.

  • last weeks homework was successfully completed by 50% participants.
  • last weeks message was successfully responded to by 25% of the participants.
  • last week represented the fewest food log submissions since the beginning of this competition in August.

On the up side.

  • one participant completed their 1st destination / event – WELL DONE!
  • another participant completed their 3rd destination to date – VERY WELL DONE
  • a third participant knocked 6lbs off his total which makes 16 since starting (and that’s mostly through increased movement and attention to nutrition) - VERY WELL DONE

This weeks lesson – what to do when you hit the wall.
Happens to the best of us at some point in our lives when we follow the funk for too long and default to ‘why bother’. This reaction is especially prevalent in a lifestyle change because of what we spoke about earlier around instant gratification and this process being anything but close to instant. Because of the subjective emotions tied to ‘weight loss’, we’ve attached very objective milestones such as destinations, body composition measurements. If we don’t continue to do that, we risk following the ‘can’t do it – why bother path’ so many North American’s get on. Read a great stat the other day – fitness is an 8.7 billion dollar / year business while at the same time the health care crisis is now reaching the trillions. That simply goes to show us that what we are doing.... Isn’t working.

At any rate, when you start to feel defeated, reflect back to the reasons staying consistent is a better option that not.

  1. longer life. Simply. You will live longer by living healthier – nothing you don’t already know.
  2. better life. The quality of life (especially as we age) is much better when we are much healthier.
  3. cheaper life. The costs associated with a healthy life are substantially less than those tied to an unhealthy life.
  4. children. Being the example is a responsibility that impacts your children and your childrens children and so on.
  5. friends. Aligning yourself with new like minded friends keeps you mentally sharp as well as physically active

So for those couple / few who are struggling to make it to the finish line, fear not – you’ve walked the 18 mile wall (which is what you hit in marathons) and now it’s time to start running again. Don’t even think of letting yourself walk of the course now or walk over the finish line, these next 2 weeks should be prep for your final kick as we complete the 1st stage of the rest of your life.

YOU CAN
YOU WILL
YOU ARE
........ A winner.
