Cyclebetes - In the right place at the right time.

Posted Mar 9, 2008

We can only hope that we are in the right place at the right time. We are given opportunities to participate in great things – it is the final choice that determines ones level of commitment. This past weekend, one of many great events took place. In a gymnasium in West Vancouver, a large group of likeminded individuals took part in a 24hr spin relay. We rode our bikes from 4pm Friday to 4pm Saturday in hopes to raise awareness and funds for JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The goal was to have up to 50 teams riding throughout that timeframe and raise up to 50,000 dollars.
Well at about 2am or so, the announcement went out that we had surpassed our goal of 50k and to fast forward, we managed to raise around 68,000 dollars.
The gym was full of every type of person – Mums, Dads, students and recreational athletes.  Local bands, movies and music kept our minds off the pain created by the saddles and when the dust settled, we celebrated with cheers and clapping. Tears were flowing and each and every member was proud of their accomplishment.
It goes to show you how it feels to be in the right place at the right time.
Next time you receive an invitation to be a part or volunteer for a charitable event, make yourself available and reap the rewards of giving back and brightening the day of someone else.
You will be delighted by the feeling and who knows, you may inspire those around you to do the same thing.
