Buzz… at my door…’it’s Paul with your missing bag from Alaska!’ I energetically bounce to the street to greet him and pickup my things.

What a weekend, snowmobiling in Alaska gets a 12/10 for adventure and a very high grade on the extreme level!

On Thursday morning, my alarm went off at 6am and I rolled out of bed for a 9am flight. Our plane took us from Vancouver to Seattle first and then back north to Anchorage Alaska. While we were positioning for a landing, we could tell by the look of the water in Cook Inlet that this place was cold, yikes! We arrived in the afternoon and settled in our rooms. We were free to explore with our time because we weren’t getting picked up until 8am the next day..back to Thursday night, we had a great dinner and proceeded to tour the city and sample a couple bevies at the local taverns. The people were friendly and a great time was had by all.

First thing Friday we hopped into our guides’ truck and headed to the mountains. We drove south for an hour and arrived at a storage container to prep for the day. Full gear from head to toe and new Summit 800’s! The day was full of fast fury on the sleds. We encountered all types of riding including valleys, creek beds, trees, glaciers, ice caves, technical, and fast riding…it was intense. After getting the sleds back to their compound, we were dropped off at our lodging, which was at the Alyeska Inn. This place was huge and had European usability. A ski resort type building situated at the base of Mt. Alyeska.

Saturday we were again picked up and shuttled to the sleds, we actually drove from there in our trusted guides’ truck and headed to Turnagain Pass. This day was full of climbing, trees, climbing and powder fields! Wow, another day of seriously technical ‘snowmachining’. At one point, we jumped off the sled into waist deep powder…ya, it was that good. The wind at times was fierce and at some points there was visible danger, but we all returned without incident and full of amazing memories.

Back to Anchorage for our final night…a night of a relaxing dinner and drinks with new friends and a little entertainment…Alaska style!

Now that I have my bag, I can get unpacked and dry out some gear…
